Warmonger McCain and Revising the Reagan Legacy

It seems Warmonger-in-Chief McCain and his sidekick Team America star Lindsey Graham are all up in arms that the GOP may actually be tiring of perpetual war and empire.  Both the grumpy old man and his young ward have been taking to the airwaves warning America that the GOP is going “isloationist”!  Grumpy even went so far as to question:

“I wonder what Ronald Reagan would be saying today?” McCain said. “[H]e would be saying that’s not the Republican Party of the 20th century and now the 21st century. That’s not the Republican Party that has been willing to stand up for freedom for people for all over the world – whether in Grenada that Ronald Reagan had a quick operation about or about countering the Soviet Union.”

Well, as our wars of perpetuity seem to be focused in the Middle East (Iraq, Afghamistan, Libya and coming soon Syria and Iran) lets see what the Gipper wrote in his memoirs about the Middel East:

Perhaps we didn’t appreciate fully enough the depth of the hatred and the complexity of the problems that made the Middle East such a jungle. Perhaps the idea of a suicide car bomber committing mass murder to gain instant entry to Paradise was so foreign to our own values and consciousness that it did not create in us the concern for the marines’ safety that it should have.

In the weeks immediately after the bombing, I believe the last thing that we should do was turn tail and leave. Yet the irrationality of Middle Eastern politics forced us to rethink our policy there. If there would be some rethinking of policy before our men die, we would be a lot better off. If that policy had changed towards more of a neutral position and neutrality, those 241 marines would be alive today.

Wow, a “neutral position” and “neutrality”; isn’t that a lot like the “non-interventionist” policies advoceted for decades by Ron Paul?  Face it Grumpy, Americans are tired of the cost in blood and treasure for you to feel good about freedom!   Here is a quote that I will never let readers forget:

Wherever the standard of freedom and Independence has been or shall be unfurled, there will her (America’s) heart, her benedictions and her prayers be.

But she goes not abroad, in search of monsters to destroy.

She is the well-wisher to the freedom and independence of all.

She is the champion and vindicator only of her own.
